Texas Holdem hand?

Posted by FriedBones at: 2008-01-22 19:42:11
I'm trying to learn Texas Holdem, but I don't know which is the strongest hand and which is the weakest eg: is three cards of one suit stronger than a three cards in a sequence

Texas Hold'em uses the same ranking as 5 card poker. using the 5 community and 2 personal cards, you come to get the best combination of 5 cards. In your example, neither would be worth something, unless you have more with the other 2 cards. Other than that you would have a high card situation. the highest rank the the lowest is listed : 1. Royal flush - A, K, Q, J, 10 same suit 2. Straight Flush- Same Suit, Numerical Order 3. 4 of a kind - all same # different suit 4. Full House- 3 of one #, pair of another 5. Flush - same suit , non sequence 6. Straight - Different Suit, In Numerical Sequence 7. 3 of a kind - 3 of same number 8. 2 Pair- two pairs of same number 9. Pair- 2 of same number 10. High Card- Different suits, non sequentialHighest card is your value Some people play different rankings (for instance a flush is less than a straight, etc.) You could find rankings at poker.com Good Luck

Basically what the first guy said. There is no such hand as a three card straight or a three card flush. They are not worth anything. You have to use five cards to make a hand and if you are going for a straight you need 5 consecutive cards (eg 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) or a flush you need 5 cards of the same suit (eg 5 ,7 ,10, J, A all spades). Please see the first posters answer for the ranking of all the hands.
