What are some r tips to becoming a better bluffer in poker?
I play TEXAS HOLDEM with my like 5 of my friends so please tell me tips and advice and stradegys about how to do well in texas holdem. i never usually bluff and arent always that lucky so please help me thx
the general is you can bluff out a good player but rarely a bad player.ERGO, since your friends can't be bluffed, take a shot with a big stack against the shortstack when he has a good hand or when it doesn't cost you very much. and always show it when you get caught. the bluff is in the setup when you trap them later. winning a bluff is chump change
one rule of thumb is that if you aren't getting caught bluffing, then you aren't bluffing enough. If you are getting caught bluffing a lot of the time, you are bluffing too much. mix it up with semi bluffs, total nothing bluffs, and no bluffs. If you are known as not bluffing, then you won't get action. If good people peg you as a tight player, no one will pay you off. Peg a tight player and bluff him once. It will feel very exhilarating.
Further. My first rule of bluffing is: Don't bluff. Very simply, the most successful bluffers in the world are the players whoa re known for being tight and conservative. The key to any good bluff is reputation, position, and situation. And if they know that you play very tightly and they know that you never bluffwellyou can bluff. Positionally, make them fear what you're holdingmake them make the decision. it's easier to make a bet than it is to call a bet. Situationally, don't try bluffs when it's likely they have a good to great hand. Doing this will only hurt you and cost you chips. Finally, don't show your bluff unless you intend not to bluff the enxt time you follow that beting patern.
As the prior poster said bluffing is an art form. Having said that here are the top 10 basics. 1) Avoid tells. Try to avoid an mannerisms that may give your hand away as week or strong. 2) Use your position. If you are on the button and you have say AK and everyone just calls make a decent size raise. Assuming that you have callers on the flop and assumign the flop is all rags and it is checked to you by all means bet! 3) Get a super tight reputation. Get "known" for playing only premium hands. 4) Do NOT show your bluffs. This gives your opponents way too much information. Don't show them bluffs make them ASSUME that you are ALWAYS playing the top hands even if you aren't! 5) Semi bluff. If on the flop you have an open ended straight draw and/or a flush draw then by all means but it. You can even check raise in this situation. If you hit your hand you will then have plenty of money in the pot to collect. 6) Know your players. If you know a player plays junk hands and you have a tight reputation then by all means bet as he or she will "assume" you have a good hand. 7) Conversly if you know a player is very tight and they bet then just call if you have a good draw or fold if you really have nothing. This is important because it is hard to bluff a player who has a really good hand. 8) Even though it is controversial I would say wear a hat and dark sun glasses. Some people say it is "cheating" others say it is hokey or wimpy but I can tell you from experience that hiding my eyes behind dark sun glasses has worked wonders for me. 9) If you bet and some one has a big decision to make and they start asking you all kinds of questions remain silent and remain as still as you can. Just sit there like a statue if you can. 10) If you have only a decent hand I would avoid trying to bluff on the river because by the river other players may have "caught up" and be trying to trap you. Lets say you have A/10 and the flop comes A-K-Q so now on the flop you have top pair with a decent kicker. Don't wait until the river to bet this because the turn and river could really hurt you. If the turn comes a 10 now your hand improved (2 pair now) but some one else may now have a jack giving them the nut straight and they are just waiting until the river to trap you! When you think you have the best hand bet it.
Bluffing in poker is an art form, and no poker player can rise above the level of mediocrity without some semblance of a bluffing game. To master the art of bluffing is to know when to bluff, when not to bluff, when to bluff a bluff, and who to bluff against. Some tips and notes on bluffing: Don’t have a tell. It almost goes without saying, but a novice player who can’t hide his emotions will get wiped out if he tries to bluff around experienced players. Of course, you could always try to develop a fake tell, in hopes of duping the other players. Good luck with that. You can’t bluff an entire table. It’s unlikely that you’ll get away with a bluff against four or more other players; one or two of them are bound to stay in just so you don’t win the pot uncontested. The best time to bluff is in a one-on-one or one-on-two situation, when the game has become a battle of nerves. Beware the better bluffer. Bluffing isn’t a one-sided affair - others at the table will be doing the same thing. Developing your bluffing technique is important, but don’t forget to also study other players. Figuring out when others are bluffing is just as useful as doing it effectively yourself. Try some half-hearted bluffs. You don’t always have to bluff with nothing. If you have a mediocre hand with some potential, first try to force others out with a bluff. If that fails, there’s still a chance you could make a good hand and take the pot. And once your cards are turned, the other players won’t know if you were bluffing or just overly optimistic. Don’t fear a discovery. You get to the showdown, and your bluff is revealed for all to see. That pot is lost, but the other players are now wary of your hand strength the next time you start to raise. Is he bluffing again? Maybe I should call just to make sure. Fear many discoveries. Of course, if you keep bluffing and losing no one will take your bets and raises seriously, and will call you all night. If that happens, and you don’t have luck on your side, your chip stack will quickly dwindle.
